Quirky Tailored Fashion Finds Finesse at St Augustine Academy
The indie-rock inspired creations of Australian-based designer Alvin Manolo, are marked to become a household name in fashion. Manolo’s brand St Augustine Academy has been gathering momentum in the lead up to its second appearance at RAFW for May 2010.
His striking monochrome clothing designs focus on accentuating the figure, using classic tailored shapes. Reinventing old world class to reflect contemporary indie style, Manolo has generated an influx of household music names coveting his wears. To name a few; Bloc Party, Interpol, The Killers, MGMT, The Rapture, The Bravery, Wolfmother, The Horrors, Dungen, The Scare and Operator Please!
The name St Augustine Academy, references Manolo’s childhood experiences growing up in a small town catholic school in the Phillipines, playing an influential role in his inspiration for his designs, along with a strong emphasis on the music scene.
His latest collection for Spring/Summer 09-10 Do You Believe Her? is based around the The Raveonettes’ song of the same name, drawing from their quirky interpretations of 1950s and 1960s rock music culture.
With impeccably tailored skinny suits, and ties made using original vintage fabrics, to svelte black evening dresses and intricate tops made from Argentinean lace, the St Augustine Academy boutique based in Surry Hills, Sydney is a must see for anyone serious about fashion this season!
